We come across several claims, some in favor of and some against, the Narendra Modi govt. The latest one has been the one on patents of Cow Urine being with US.
However, the fact is nowhere near the claim. Cow urine patents are very much with India, patents have been registered by Indians and obtained also. The patenting is obtained after registering with US, as is the norm. So, the patents are with India.
BJP govt started Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and allotted funds to them to carry out research of indigenous substances.
Under this, Govigyan Anusandhan Kendra, an institute on core research was opened in Deolapar, Nagpur, Maharashtra. The 20 year old institute has six patents to its credit: five from the US and one from China. These patents are about the use of the cow’s urine, dung and milk for therapeutic uses.
Here’s a list of patents registered and obtained by India:
- US patent No 6410059- for Antibiotic Anti Fungal, Bio enhancer effect of Gomutra
- US Patent No. 6896907 – For Anti Allergic, Anti infective, Nutrient & Anti-cancer
- US Patent No. 7718360- For Anti Oxidant, Apoptosis
- US Patent No. 7235262- For cow urine distillate as a Bio-enhancer of Anti-infective, Anti-cancer agents & Nutrients
- US Patent No. 7297659- For synergistic fermented plant growth promoting, bio-control composition
From 2014 onwards, approximately $50 million are spent by ICAR on various researches.
The erstwhile head of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Dr R A Mashelkar has been a major researcher on panchagavya Ayurvedic medicines for building immunity and warding off/providing relief in autoimmune diseases. Panchagavya consists of five products that come from Indian cows: milk, curd, ghee, dung and urine. His researches were funded and encouraged by BJP govts NDA 1 & 2.
Govigyan Anusandhan Kendra has research tie-ups with prestigious institutions of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). They work towards spreading awareness about Indian cow and resurrection of the self-sustaining Bharatiya (Indian) way of farming, which was prevalent and most beneficial since ancient times.
